Unit 1.2 A – Arts Event Review
The 13th Art in Clay Festival at Farnham Maltings.
I went on the 21st November 2009. There were lots of Ceramic Artists displaying their work on plinths and shelves in several long rooms. The artists were there with their work so I could talk to them about their work and ask questions about what type of clay they use and how they get their creations to stand up while they were drying.
My favourite artist was Elaine Peto; she makes clay animals. I liked them because they were very lifelike and you could almost tell what they were thinking. There were lots of other things too, for example there was a man who had made hundreds of clay whistles. There was someone else who had made model shoes and handbags out of clay. There were lots of mugs, teapots, bowls and tableware.
Three artists did talks and demonstrations. I went to the one by Elaine Peto, she showed us the process she uses to make her animals. I found it very inspiring and wanted to try making something using the technique she had showed us when I got home.
If you are interested in ceramics then I think this is a good show to go to as there is a wide range of types of work to see and makers you can meet.
Entry was free for children up to 15 and £5 for adults so I think it was good value for money.
