Artspace Youth Arts Programme
Digital Arts
Artspace Cinderford’s digital arts department has been growing for the last eight years, developing video work and undertaking projects in schools.
Forest Forward
In 2005 a group of young people came to us who wanted to make a film about zombies in the Forest and the seeds of a new project were sown. In July 2006 Forest Forward, our digital/film project, was launched with a screening at the Palace Cinema as part of that year’s Youth Arts Fringe Festival.
The group continued to meet on Thursday evenings at the New Mercury and over the last two years we have brought in other local film practitioners and story tellers to assist us in teaching script writing, how to make digital stories and creating animations.
During the last year the focus has been on stop motion animation and we now have two groups running on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Photography
Artspace has had a traditional black and white darkroom since our early years in the hut. We still believe that if you really want to learn about photography, composition, the use of light etc. then black and white is the place to start…..and nothing can match the fun of seeing your negs emerging in the developing tray!
Alongside this, however, we now have digital cameras and a computer suite equipped with Photoshop so the whole range of photographic possibilities is available and you can decide which is appropriate to what you want to create.
In 2007 a Young Photographers group formed with the aim of making their group self supporting by undertaking paid documentary commissions. They also produced a business plan and applied for funding to get the best up to date equipment.
The group continues to meet on Thursday evenings during term time and to undertake commissions from time to time, but has expanded to include young people who want to learn all kinds of photography skills, not just documentary.
